Artist Statement

Zoe’s work explores the relationship between human and handmade object— examining function and affect, habit and connection. This exploration manifests both in recreations of Chicago residential buildings as miniatures and in ceramic designs that reimagine functionality — all in pursuit of understanding “home.”

Their recent work explores the effect that ceramic objects have on the formation of habit and a sense of place. Through creative problem solving in the context of object design, Zoe experiments with making the mundane personalized — inviting intimacy in daily interaction.

Zoe is a Chicago native and the programming coordinator/cofounder of The Digs. They are able to further explore a sense of personalized problem solving by using the Digs as a vessel to integrate creativity into entrepreneurialism. Through their programming, Zoe aims to encourage individuals to engage with the intimacy of handmade objects either in their own art making or in support of other artists.

Zoe graduated with a Bachelors of Art in Visual Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Spring 2020
